Membership Details

There are many advantages to opening and operating a repair café under the Repair Cafe Wales brand and becoming a Member of Repair Cafe Wales.

So many reasons:
  • Access to effective start-up, running processes and procedures

  • Help to identify volunteers

  • An opportunity to join the Repair Cafe Wales team and influence the direction we go in

In exchange for the above great benefits, all Repair Cafe Wales Members must follow the below.

Members must:
  • Agree with our ethos of reducing waste, sharing skills and building community resilience

  • Agree to PAT test all relevant electrical items after repair in line with best practice
  • Undertake an annual documented risk assessment
  • Undertake an event safety check prior to each repair café event they manage
  • Adopt the data capture process for each event
  • Provide a statement of their repair café annual income and expenditure for auditing purposes
  • Agree to the terms of the Membership Form

There are two types of Membership

If you are joining as an individual, you will be an Associate Member. If you are not joining as an individual (for example, you represent a group or agency) you will be an Affiliate Member. The key distinction between the two membership types is in respect of insurance coverage, which is described below. However, in both cases you will get all of the great benefits described above.


If you are an Associate, you will be covered by the Repair Cafe Wales insurance policy as described below. In exchange, you will need to:

  • Follow our policies, procedures and other guidance (including in respect of risk assessments and health and safety checks)
  • Pay an annual contribution to the costs of the insurance, as notified to you from time to time. An invoice will be raised for this payment


If you are an Affiliate, you will not be covered by the Repair Cafe Wales insurance policy. This means that you will have to arrange your own minimum insurance coverage (Public Liability at £5,000,000 and Employers Liability at £10,000,000) and confirm to us that you have done so. However, it also means that you do not need to follow all of the Repair Cafe Wales policies and procedures, although you still need to carry out risk assessments and health and safety checks.
