This week we’re sharing stories and photos from across our network to celebrate 100 communities signing up!
We see lots of special and sentimental items in our repair cafes. We wanted to share this particularly lovely story from Maesteg repair cafe which is supported by Bavo.
John and Janette Daniel met when they were in school and were happily married for 44 years they were looking forward to retirement when, sadly, Janette passed away. Janette used to take her umbrella everywhere with her but it had stopped working so when John heard about Maesteg Repair Café, he decided to take it there to find out if it could be repaired. Unfortunately, the umbrella could not be fixed but one of the founder members of Maesteg Repair Café suggested he could try to make a cushion out of some of the material from the umbrella as a keepsake.
John said he was “over the moon with what the guys have done for me”, “I am ecstatic! I have a chair upstairs where I sit to read and look over the garden. I can take the cushion with me, and it will feel like Janette is there with me.”
John Daniel was so pleased with the welcome he received at the Repair Café by the members of Shedquarters that he has decided to become a member of the group.
