Got a favourite jumper with a hole? A coat missing buttons? A zip that’s stopped working?  Join us for a special textile-focused Repair Café in partnership with National Musuem Cardiff, celebrating the skills, creativity and sustainability of repairing our clothes.

Bring along a garment and learn how to:

– Mend tears and worn areas
– Replace buttons and repair seams
– Fix zips and fastenings
– Explore Sashiko decorative reinforcement stitching
– Give clothes a longer life through visible mending and creative repair

Whether you’re an experienced maker or have never picked up a needle before, our skilled repair volunteers will be on hand to help.

Rag Rug Making:
Turn worn-out textiles into something new. Try your hand at rag rug making using reclaimed fabric.

Textile Amnesty:
Have clothes that are beyond repair or donation? Bring them along to our Textile Amnesty. We’ll collect unwanted textiles and repurpose them for future creative and educational activities. We can only accept washed items.

The History of Repair:
Explore historical objects, needlework samplers and examples of repair from the museum’s collections. Discover how making do, mending and remaking have been part of everyday life for generations.

The most sustainable clothes are the ones we already own. Bring something to mend. Leave with new skills.

A partnership between Repair Cafe Wales and the National Museum Cardiff, made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players.
