ABOUT THE ROLE

The Community and Workshop Co-ordinator will lead on delivering repair skills workshops across Wales as part of the Climate Justice Cymru project. This project is funded by the National Lottery and led by Race Equality First. Repair Cafe Wales are a partner.

The workshops will focus on increasing participation from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities, refugees, migrants, low-income households and other underrepresented groups, helping to build skills, confidence, and community resilience through practical, hands-on learning. The project will run for three years and throughout this time 60 skills sessions will be run and 6 community repair cafes will be established, with the support of the Community and Workshop Co-ordinator.

We are currently a small team that is very supportive of flexible working, with a focus on delivering outcomes. This role is home-based but occasional travel to repair cafes across Wales may be expected.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-design workshops which will teach a range of repair skills (this may include sewing, bike repair, electrical repair, PAT testing) with support from the Head of Network Support and Director
  • Identify need for specialist support to deliver repair skills training and recruit freelancers as appropriate
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver repair skills workshops to a variety of communities across Wales, ensuring the sessions are inclusive, accessible, and engaging
  • Identify opportunities to open new repair cafes and support their set-up
  • Represent the organisation at community events, meetings, and outreach activities
  • Assist with developing workshop content and resources which are clear and accessible
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed during all activities
  • Promote workshops and opportunities through a range of channels (social media, community networks, partners)
  • Gather ongoing feedback from participants and volunteers and use this feedback to continually improve delivery

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Previous experience

  • Experience working with volunteers, community groups, or outreach programmes
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Experience organising and delivering events, workshops, or community activities
  • Experience working with Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities, refugees, migrants, low-income households and other underrepresented groups. An understanding of the barriers faced by these groups would be beneficial.
