We have amazing people in the Repair Cafe Wales Family

As part of a series on getting to know our volunteers, we’ve set a series of questions and our amazing volunteers have answered them ‘virtually’ for us.

Next up in the series is our Board Director, Tom

Q. What is your name, when did you start volunteering with Repair Cafe Wales and in what capacity (role / skill)?

A. Tom Sinclair, May 2020, bringing finance skills and leadership from my day job as a finance director at a large corporate to the management team at RCW.

Q. Why did you decide to volunteer with Repair Cafe Wales?

A. I wanted to share my skills and give something back as well as stretch myself in a different environment for some time. The spring lockdown in 2020 gave me the time and focus I needed to search for something I could contribute to and make it happen.

Q. What do you like best about Repair Cafe Wales?

A. I fundamentally believe in the values upon which RCW is built – Waste Reduction, Sharing Skills, Community Cohesion.

Q. What is your favourite part of volunteering with us?

A. I love working with the other amazing volunteers at RCW and hearing their points of view.

Q. What do you think the repair café events do for the community?

A. As well as allowing people to get their items fixed for free, Repair Cafes provide a focal point and inspiration for other like-minded activities in the circular economy, which we are happy to embrace.

Q. Have you gained any skills from the experience?

A. Working with a diverse group of people and how to run a community interest company including all the necessary filing requirements and business banking.

Q. How does volunteering with Repair Cafe Wales make you feel?

A. Knowing that I am playing a small but significant role in a growing movement to reduce landfill is a great feeling and gives me energy and motivation as well as new perspectives.

Q. Would you recommend volunteering for Repair Cafe Wales? Why?

A. Yes of course! We have so many different roles for fixers, organisers, ambassadors so there is plenty of opportunity whatever you are looking for. As well as collaborating with a fun team, it’s a great feeling to know that you are contributing to the reduction of landfill.
